dr carolyne keenan

I’m Dr Carolyne Keenan, a Registered Psychologist specialising in teen mental health, parenting support, anxiety and emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA). I work with young people, parents, families and organisations to help them understand emotional distress, calm overwhelmed nervous systems and find steadier ways forward. Whether through therapy, parent programmes, workshops, media work or public speaking, my focus is the same:helping people understand what’s really happening beneath anxiety, behaviour and overwhelm-and what genuinely helps.

How I Can Help

I provide psychological therapy, education and consultation in a way that is grounded, compassionate and accessible.

I don’t offer quick fixes. I help people understand why things feel hard-and how to respond differently, with support.

  • Therapy for young people and adults experiencing anxiety, low mood, emotional distress, self-harm, identity struggles and low self-wort

  • Specialist support for families navigating Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)

  • Parent programmes and group courses, including ‘Survive EBSA’.

  • Workshops and webinars for schools, organisations and communities.

Who I Work With

My Psychological Approach

I work as an integrative, trauma-informed psychologist, drawing on multiple evidence-based models rather than a single framework.

My approach focuses on:

Emotional and nervous system regulation

Understanding behaviour as communication

Reducing shame and self-blame

Strengthening relationships and emotional safety

Supporting sustainable change, not pressure

I’m known for making complex psychological ideas easy to understand, while respecting the depth and complexity of people’s experiences.

WHY WORK WITH ME

People often come to me feeling overwhelmed, blamed or stuck. They leave feeling:

Understood rather than judged

Calmer and more confident

Clearer about what matters and what helps

Less alone

I bring both clinical expertise and a strong understanding of real-world pressures- family life, education systems, work demands and public scrutiny.
